Your Exam, Step 1: Automated Pre Testing

During this phase of your exam, the technician will preform a series of computerized readings which give your doctor a great starting point of how well you see. Using inferred light, the instrument gives a prescription, the exact distance between your eyes (which makes for more accuracy on your glasses) and the precise shape of the front of your eyes (the cornea), telling us about any astigmatism you may have.

Next, a test of your eye pressure is preformed. All of these tests are painless!

Finally, if you currently have a pair of glasses, we read the prescription in those with another specialized computer called the lensometer.

This complete set of information about your eyes is scanned onto a specialized data card and then follows you to your exam. Now, time to find out more about how we can help you!

Your Exam, Step 2: Optomap® Non Dilated Retinal Exam

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. Our doctors begin all comprehensive eye exams with the latest in eye imaging systems, the Optomap® Retinal Exam produces an image that is as unique as your fingerprint and provides your doctor with a wide view to look at the health of your retina. The retina is the part of your eye that captures the image of what you are looking at, similar to film in a camera.

Many eye problems can develop without you knowing. You may not even notice any change in your sight. But, diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments, and other health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina.

Your Exam, Step 3: How May We Help You?

Next, you are escorted to an exam room where an exam technician will then visit with you in detail about your eye history, medications you are taking, family eye history and more. We find out what your visual needs are and how we can best help you. Perhaps specialized glasses for computer or work are needed. Maybe contact lenses will serve you the best. We can even recommend vision corrective procedures (like LASIK), if that is appropriate for you. We will discus this with you at length. All of this is crucial to precisely managing your eye health, visual prescription, and visual needs.

Once we have gathered all of your case history, your vision will be checked by having you read randomized letters on an LCD monitor. Other visual skills including pupillary reflexes, motility, eye teaming, ect. will be measured.

Your Exam, Step 4: Reviewing your Optomap

Now, your doctor will review your Optomap® retinal images, insuring that things are nice and healthy! Any unusual or suspicious areas will be further investigated, perhaps by having your pupils dilated. Having an annual Optomap® allows your doctor to monitor your eye health by comparing images from year to year.

When’s the last time you actually got to see the inside of your eyes? Did you know that your retina is actually an extension of your brain?

Your Exam, Step 5: Totally Automated Eye Examinations

Now, you can have the most accurate eye exam possible without the “guesswork” of traditional eye test. You’ll notice that it is so much easier to tell us, “Which is better, 1 or 2?”. In fact, the TRS 5100 system makes your entire exam procedure faster and more comfortable.

Your Exam, Step 6: Eye Health Evaluation

Your doctor will thoroughly exam your eyes, inside and out, to insure that there are no signs of any eye disease. Most eye diseases do not cause any pain, so annual eye examinations are critical in protecting your most precious sense.

Some of the eye diseases we routinely check for include glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Most people are not aware that many systemic diseases (especial high blood pressure and diabetes) also present themselves in the eyes! Finally, your doctor will summarize your exam findings and make custom recommendations suited to your individual needs.

Your Exam, Step 7: Recommendations for Your Specific Needs

After all the data has been collected and the test are complete, your doctor will prescribe and individual treatment plan for you or advise you if further, specialized testing is needed. Recommendations and prescriptions often include one or more of the following:

  • Eyeglasses
